The quickest, cheapest and safest way to get around Paris is definitely the underground (Métro). The Paris underground is a complete network with 16 lines and more than 300 stations in about 200 km.

THE PARIS UNDERGROUND MAP

Get an underground map of Paris and learn how to consult it. It’s free and you can get it at tickets offices all around the city.

Each line is identified by a color that you will see all around yourself inside the stations. Together with the Métro you will find 5 lines of the RER, a railway network, that connects Paris suburbs, whose lines are partly underground. On the map you will notice some white spots that signal the interchange stations, where you can change line right from the station.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE PARIS UNDERGROUND

The Paris underground operates from 5:30 am to 0.30/1:20 pm, depending on the lines. Trains pass every 4 minutes (less frequently on Sunday). To get to the train from the entrance of the station you usually have to go down long stairs or escalators and walk along tunnels.

Single tickets cost 1.60€ and are valid for 90 minutes.
